It is easy to get bleed resist, and bleed is the main reason to use uchigatana. Without landing bleed, the damage in general is pitiful. Having a lot of low damage hits is fine, if you can get them in. A scythe though gives you the ability to dish damage out over a larger range, even if the player uses a shield.

The Uchigatana may require less points in Dexterity, but since that is where most of the damage bonus for katanas come from, it's kind of pointless unless you're going for a Lightning/ Fire weapon.
